It was a pleasure to see so many of our families – parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends – at the Family Welcome! I would like to especially thank all those who donated the delicious breakfast items; our students have been enjoying snacks of bagels, muffins, juice, fruit, yogurt and granola all week.

Our first week of orientation has been about getting to know each other, assessing our students’ skills, knowledge, and interests, and building bonds by sharing/reinforcing our school culture. Next week we will begin our regular schedule of classes. We hope to have prepared our students to hit the ground running when classes begin in earnest on Monday. This week our students…

  • were assessed in English, Math, Science, History, Health, and PE
  • posted Spanish nouns throughout the school to label common objects
  • were oriented to the facility, including how to care for it and keep it clean
  • selected a choice book for individual reading
  • discussed options for clubs and groups: Robotics Team, Economic/Personal Finance Team, Basketball Team, Games Club, Re-cycling Group, Theater and Arts groups, Social Committee, Creative Writing and Publications Group, Service Club, and any other areas of interest to students
  • met in Advisory groups and learned about counseling at NSH
  • participated in a Break-Out/Escape Room
  • set up new student school email accounts
  • developed an initial plan for Tech courses
  • were introduced to and took the ASVAB test to identify skills and career interests
  • walked to Township Park
